Taking Care of Your Cast Iron Cookware

CAST IRON CARE HOW TO SEASON YOUR CAST IRON

  1. Using a paper towel, rub a light coating of oil on the inside and outside of the pan. Be conservative when applying oil; using too much can result in a sticky residue.
  2. Place a sheet of aluminum foil or a rimmed baking sheet on the lower rack of the oven to catch drips. Place oiled pan upside down on the middle rack of the oven.
  3. Bake at 350°F for about 1 hour. Turn off the oven, and let the pan cool. Repeat as necessary. Store in a cool, dry place.

REMOVING WAX COATING (WHEN NEEDED)

  1. Place the cookware in the oven or over a fire/burner. Wipe off excess wax as it melts until all smoke clears, then clean with warm water and detergent and let dry naturally.
  2. Dip oil with a towel and apply over the surface (both inside and out) of the cookware evenly.
  3. Heat the cookware in the oven at 200°F for an hour.

CLEANING YOUR CAST IRON

Protect the precious nonstick surface by avoiding harsh detergents, scouring pads, and dishwashers, and go easy on the soap.

STORING YOUR CAST IRON

  1. After cleaning, dry your cookware immediately to avoid rust.
  2. Heat your pan on the stove over low heat, or place in the oven at 400°F for 10 minutes or until dry.
  3. Rub with a light coating of oil while the pan is still warm, then let cool completely.
