Before the PVC cement, also known as PVC pipe glue, gets added, you need Purple Primer from Agri Supply. PVC glue needs a properly prepared surface to really take hold and make a lasting connection between PVC pipe and PVC fitting. Pipe glue is part of a two-step process for solvent welding the materials together. PVC primer comes first by wiping the pipe with a rag to remove debris and dirt and to soften up the PVC material for applying the PVC pipe glue.

PVC cement hardens into an airtight bond, but only if you start with PVC primer. PVC glue reacts with the PVC primer to dry into a hard weld.

PVC cement needs an effective surface to join a piece of PVC pipe with a fitting, and Agri Supply carries one of the most popular solutions for preparing PVC pipe, Purple Primer. PVC glue works as part of a two-part process for solvent welding. Pipe glue creates a strong and leak-proof bond between pipes and fitting, but only if you do both steps. PVC primer is the first step, preparing the PVC pipe by removing contaminates from the pipe and softening a thin layer of the PVC material.

PVC cement and CPVC cement work the same, so you still need Purple Primer from our plumbing supply store section. With your PVC glue, make sure you get plenty of our Purple Primer, which comes in an 8-ounce container and a more economical 16-ounce container. Pipe glue is not much good without Purple Primer to clean and prime the PVC pipes for joining and set up the chemical reaction. PVC primer is one of the more than 26,000 items we carry for farm, shop, home, and garden, rivaling the selection you can find at any hardware stores.
