Cookware Care
Taking Care of Your Cast Iron Cookware
CAST IRON CARE HOW TO SEASON YOUR CAST IRON
- Using a paper towel, rub a light coating of oil on the inside and outside of the pan. Be conservative when applying oil; using too much can result in a sticky residue.
- Place a sheet of aluminum foil or a rimmed baking sheet on the lower rack of the oven to catch drips. Place oiled pan upside down on the middle rack of the oven.
- Bake at 350°F for about 1 hour. Turn off the oven, and let the pan cool. Repeat as necessary. Store in a cool, dry place.
REMOVING WAX COATING (WHEN NEEDED)
- Place the cookware in the oven or over a fire/burner. Wipe off excess wax as it melts until all smoke clears, then clean with warm water and detergent and let dry naturally.
- Dip oil with a towel and apply over the surface (both inside and out) of the cookware evenly.
- Heat the cookware in the oven at 200°F for an hour.
CLEANING YOUR CAST IRON
Protect the precious nonstick surface by avoiding harsh detergents, scouring pads, and dishwashers, and go easy on the soap.
STORING YOUR CAST IRON
- After cleaning, dry your cookware immediately to avoid rust.
- Heat your pan on the stove over low heat, or place in the oven at 400°F for 10 minutes or until dry.
- Rub with a light coating of oil while the pan is still warm, then let cool completely.
