Classic French Toast

  • Butter or oil
  • Eggs, 4
  • Vanilla extract, 1 Tbsp.
  • Milk, 3 Tbsp.
  • Sugar, 1 tsp.
  • Cinnamon, ground, 1/4 tsp
  • 4 slices bread
  • Maple syrup
  • Confectioners sugar, optional

  • Set the butter or oil aside until you are ready to cook the French Toast.
  • In a large flat dish, beat the eggs. Add the vanilla, milk, cinnamon, and sugar and whisk together until smooth.
  • Turn your stove's burner on medium heat. Place your cast iron griddle on the burner and add butter or oil. Use a spatula to swirl it around the griddle until it is sizzling.
  • Now take a slice of bread and dip one side into the egg mixture unti the entire slice is wet. Turn and dip the other side until it is also wet. Place it on your hot cast iron griddle.
  • Cook for approximately 2 minutes or until the egg on the bottom of the bread is golden brown. Flip your French Toast, and cook for the same amount of time until golden brown.
  • Continue until all slices are finished.
  • Serve while still warm. Cover with maple syrup and confectioners sugar, if desired.
  • Makes 4 servings.
