Dutch Baby dessert Dutch Baby Recipe

This giant fluffy treat (sometimes called a German pancake) is crispy on the edges with a custard-like center. A Dutch baby is baked, and has a slightly eggy flavor that makes it the perfect dish for sweet, savory or just to enjoy plain! Toss in some ham and cheese for more of an omelet style in your Carolina Cooker® cast iron skillet or top with fruit, cinnamon and maple syrup. A fun little breakfast or dessert idea using ingredients you probably already have in your kitchen.

Cookware We Recommend: 10.5" Cast Iron Skillet

Prep Time: 10 minutes
Cook Time: 20 minutes
Serves: 4-6

Ingredients:

  • ½ cup AP flour
  • ½ cup whole milk
  • 2 eggs
  • 2 tbsp sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • ½ tsp salt
  • 2 tbsp butter
  • Powdered sugar
  • Fresh fruits

Directions:

  1. Preheat the oven to 425 degrees, put the 10.5” cast iron skillet in the oven to preheat as well
  2. In a blender: add flour, milk, eggs, sugar, vanilla and salt
  3. Blend to combine and allow batter to rest for 5-10 min
  4. Remove skillet from oven and add butter into skillet
  5. Swirl butter to coat the entire bottom and sides of skillet
  6. Next add batter and place back into oven for 15-20 minutes
  7. Remove and top with fresh fruit of choice and optional powdered sugar to sweeten
