On each end of the hammock, there are 9 fabric notches, 18 in. total that hold cotton rope into place. The rope is then secured by the 2 wooden support beams on each end, measuring 31-1/4 in. L x 1 in. H x 3/4 in. W. The individual rope pieces continue to extend then come together creating a large circular rope constructed handle from which the hammock hangs.
